Nor-Cal Guides and Sportsmen’s Association: The Sportsman’s Voice

The Nor-Cal Guides and Sportsmen’s Association (NCGASA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that speaks for over 2,500 professional guides and everyday anglers across Northern California. The group’s mission is simple: make sure the people who actually use our waterways have a seat at the table when rules are made.

In California’s constant battles over water and habitat, NCGASA provides the boots-on-the-ground advocacy needed to keep fishing traditions alive. The organization is led by President James Stone and a dedicated membership that includes many of California's premier fishing guides. Together, they represent the community at the State Capitol and the Pacific Fishery Management Council to ensure our voices are heard where it counts.

Action on the Ground

NCGASA doesn't just talk about conservation; they put in the work. The team has been a primary force behind several major efforts:

  • Striped Bass Protection: Leading the push for new slot limits to protect big breeder females and ensure the long-term health of the fishery.

  • Salmon Recovery: Heading up projects to release juvenile salmon into flooded rice fields, giving them a much better shot at reaching the ocean than traditional methods.
  • Habitat Advocacy: Fighting for better flow levels and optimized hatchery practices to protect the future of the Sacramento River and the Delta.

Advocacy and Insight

For most of us, NCGASA is the source for what is really happening with seasons and regulations. While standard reports tell you where the bite is, NCGASA explains why a season is open, what the fish counts look like for next year, and what changes are coming down the pipe before they hit the news.

The association works to improve hatchery efficiency and push for science-based policies that benefit the fish and the people who catch them.

Support the Future of Fishing

Advocacy takes resources. For professional guides, an NCGASA membership is a vital investment in the future of their industry. For the rest of us, it is the best way to ensure there are still fish for our kids and grandkids.

You can head over to NCGASA.org to join. Whether you are a guide or a sportsman, you are putting resources into the hands of the people on the front lines fighting for our water, our wildlife, and our way of life.
